Merry and Bright
One week ago we (read that as B) hauled all the Christmas boxes down from the attic.
Slowly, over the past week, they have been gone through and things taken out.
Finally, all the stockings are hung
and everything is Merry and Bright.
I wonder how long it will take me to get tired of looking at it all?

Why?
This is my grandad.
It has been seventeen years since he passed away but yet I have cried twice in the last three days over him.

This Is Christmas
Roughly two months ago C2 brought home a paper telling about his Christmas program and what type of costumes would be needed. When I asked him what he was, he didn't know. Well, I wasn't too worried about it. We had plenty of time.
Fast forward to Wednesday night. Being the wonderful mom that I am, I had totally not given any thought to his costume. I asked him what he wanted to be, a cat or a dog.
Dog.
OK.
Now to figure this one out.
I tried to push it off on my mom, but she just laughed at me.
I had an idea, but the Dollar General in town was NO help. I was not in the mood to drive to Walmart.
I know, I'll call M and have him stop there after work!
Oops. Forgot to call.
On Thursday mornings C1 has to be at school at 7am. I went then.
This is what we ended up with:
He got a lot of compliments and no one knew the difference.
See, it always works out.

Dinner and Dancing
Last night M had to work, so he told us to come to the restaurant for supper. The kids and I invited my grandma and mom to come also. My mom had my cousin's little girl at her house, so she brought her along.
After we ate, C1 put a few quarters in the juke box.

Today is my birthday, so here are 39 things I have learned in my life:
1) Cats do smile
2) When the car says "0 miles to empty", you still have a few more miles to go
3) You do not drive with two feet
4) How to do a back dive
5) I have not made my last mistake as a parent
6) Recycling is important
7) How to balance a checkbook
8) God does answer prayers
9) I do like peas
10) How to sneak in the house after curfew
11) Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and Trigonometry
12) How to trim a rabbit's nails
13) A good laugh can get you out of a bad mood
14) I need "me" time to stay sane
15) A calick does not mean a "cow licked" you
16) Grandmas are the best!
17) The best friends you will ever have are the ones you grew up with
18) Things can change in an instant
19) I do like "The Office"
20) The songs you grew up with will always be your favorites
21) Teenagers think they know it all!!!
22) Everything will work out in the end, don't worry
23) Rabbits can be litter box trained and make wonderful pets
24) If a car door is frozen and will not shut, it will fly open when you turn a corner!

Back to the Real World
Tomorrow we all go back to school. We have gotten in the habit of staying up late and sleeping in. We have watched several movies, got a lot of cleaning done, and enjoyed the break. I feel like I did at the beginning of the school year. I'm not ready!
We celebrated Thanksgiving at my grandma's this year. It was interesting I guess. We are a family with a lot going on. There are different issues that certain members are facing and it affects us all. Christmas should be interesting to say the least. Pray for civility among certain members, and peace this holiday season. We can use it.
M's family is suffering some separation also. Since his mom passed away, one of his brothers has isolated himself from the rest of the family. I know this hurts M. He has always been the one to reach out to this brother, but he gets no where. M's oldest brother, his wife, M, the kids and I all went to Fat Jack's Pizza on Thanksgiving Night. It was different to say the least.
My house is ready for decorating, but I am too sick to do it. Saturday morning I woke up with the flu. Nice. The kids were the most disappointed because Saturday was supposed to be the day for decorating. But, being the wonderful kids they are, they have accepted the idea that we will do it tomorrow, the first day of December. I told them that makes more sense anyways, right?
