Brown Noser?

Last night C1 was cleaning out her bookbag for school.

She found a paper that she had done in Language Arts. She was proud of herself because she had used one of their vocabulary words for that week on it. It impressed the teacher so much that she commented on the paper and attached a "High Five" to it.

I said, "You are such a brown noser!"

"What does that mean?" she asked.

I explained that it is when you do something that you know another person will like just to make them proud of you or to get them to like you better.

She started laughing and said, "That is what I was thinking when I wrote it!"

Oh my!

Under The Pier

This is probably my favorite picture from last weekend.

It was one of those "last minute" shots that I almost didn't get.

I love it.

Why?

How is it that even though you are around people all day, you can still feel lonely?

I'm not sure if I am just feeling the after effects of last weekend or what...but that is how I feel.

Not depressed or down, just...lonely.

The Big Shoe

The other night we were at Shoe Carnival and M came across these shoes.

They are a size 18!!!

They are twice the size of C1's head!

"Oh! That's going on the blog!" I said.

Getting Away

Last weekend was our Annual Girls Getaway Weekend.

This year we met in Charleston, SC.

The thing about these girls is, the conversation starts as soon as we get together...and it does.not.stop.

There is never a time where the conversation just seems to run dry.

I can only speak for myself, but it has taken me a few days to get back in the groove of my life. Yes, it was only forty eight hours that we were together. But it was time for us. Time for each of us to be ourselves. Time to do what we wanted to do.

One thing we did decide on?

Next year, it will be longer!!!

Right now, this is all I'm willing to share...

Exciting Day!

This morning I am flying to South Carolina for the weekend.

I'm meeting three friends there from my younger days.

I'm so excited.

I'm a little sorry though that this is the weekend to be going. Our High School Girls Basketball Team is playing in Columbus today. They made it to the Final Four in the State Tournaments.

If not for this trip, we would be going to the game.

So much going on for one day!!!

QWERTY

Two weeks ago M had the day off and headed out to Alltel. His case for his phone was broke and he wanted to get a new one.

He did.

He also came home with this.

"I got you a new phone," he said.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because I thought you would like it," was his answer.

I do. It's just that, I'm old. I had finally gotten the texting thing down pretty good with my old phone.

This one has a QWERTY keyboard.

It does this.

I'm still learning to use it.

By the time I get used to it, he'll bring home another one.

(At least he knew enough to get the red one)

I Think It Has Sprung!

I love it this time of year when I step outside and see this in the yard

The flowers are blooming, the robins are back and the temperature is up.

Spring has sprung!

Par For The Course

This Saturday, the 14th, is C2's Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race.

Here's his car.

Why do we do this over and over and over?

Why can't we just.get.things.done before the actual day of the event?

So...

this is what goes on when no one is home.

They usually act like they don't like each other.

Busted!!!

Stupid Time Change

This morning M and I both woke up and looked at the clock.

"Is that right?" he said.

"YES!" I shout as I'm leaping out of the bed.

It was 7:52! B and C1 get on the bus at 7:00 and C2 starts school at 8:00. WE OVERSLEPT!

I put out the dog, woke up the kids, and got bowls of cereal ready. I packed two lunches, encouraged teeth brushing, picked out clothing, kissed them, and hurried them out the door.

M made a pot of coffee and smoked a cigarette. ("Really? Think you could help me?" I.wanted.to.shout.)

Then he took them all to school.

Two will be tardy; one ten minutes late.

As they were going out the door M says, "You know this happened because of the time change."

Ya think!?!

Don't Forget!

Pocahontas

For the past month at school C1 has been working on a Bio Fair Project.

Every student in the sixth grade is given a historical person to research. They do ninety percent of the work at school. They write a short report, make a timeline and print pictures from the Internet. They then put it all together along with a short presentation in costume.

On Thursday evening and Friday at school, they had the Bio Fair. The evening portion was practice for the kids along with bonus points. Friday, during school, they would be judged by parent volunteers on how well they presented their characters and their knowledge of them.

Well, if you read my Twitter bar, you know that as of five o'clock on Wednesday evening, we had no costume. I said I was calling my mom, and I did.

Thank God!!!

This is what C1 ended up with

In twenty four hours my mom whipped this out. I couldn't have done it in twenty four days!

C1 got a lot of compliments on her costume, and she did a great job on her presentation.

Oh, it didn't hurt that my dad ended up being one of her three judges.

Lucky girl!

New Blog

I found a new favorite blog!

It is just a blog where women people can go and post a whine.

Too funny! I was cracking up reading some of them. They are all too true!

Here's one of my favorites:

Is this a whine?
I look forward to my husband going out of town so I can sleep sideways all across the bed with the cat.

I mean, come on! No one wants to admit it, but it is kind of nice to have the whole bed to yourself once in awhile. That's why when M falls asleep on the couch, I sometimes leave him there. Yeah, I tell him in the morning that I tried to wake him up, but just had no luck.

This stuff is too funny!

Go here to check it out!!!

How Does This Happen?

I had been doing really good about keeping up with things.

Now, I am so far behind, I don't know where to start.

There is laundry to catch up on, cleaning, regular PTO stuff, Carnival Raffle stuff and Girl Scouts.

Step one: Get my house in order. I just can not function with a disorderly house.

Step two: Start the laundry. Washing just enough for the last two nights so the kids have clothes to wear the next day, is getting me nowhere.

Step three: PTO!!! This is my last year, and I'm so excited about that!

Step four: Everything else. Including running the kids around, homework, and supper.

What has got me so far behind, I have no idea. Lack of motivation I guess.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I started reading a book on Sunday and am down to the last 75 pages.

Nah! That can't be it!

The Sweetest Thing

Early this morning, on my way to pick C1 up from a lock-in at the YMCA, I saw a little dog laying on the side of the road. It looked like a Pomeranian. I saddened me to think of the family that lost this pet in such a tragic way. I prayed that they would find him or her soon.

This afternoon while driving down the same road, I looked to see if the dog was still there. It was. But this time, it had been wrapped in a blanket and moved off the road, onto the gravel.

How sweet that a fellow animal lover took the time to probably check for tags and to then wrap the dog.

There is good in the world.
