Word Vomit

I stole that phrase from a movie. Don't ask which one, but I'm pretty sure it had Hilary Duff in it.

Do you know what it means?

It's when words just come out of you mouth before you even have to chance to think about them and/or their consequences.

At the last Band Booster Meeting I went to, they were talking about OMEA District III Junior High festival that is going to be held at the Middle School. I had started to tune out because that did not pertain to me or my kids. Next thing I hear is that the lady who has been in charge of the concessions for this event, will not be doing it after this year. Still really not listening. Then they are saying how they will have to find some one to work with her this year and learn what she does. That's when I look up and see three sets of eyeballs...ON ME!

Before I can stop it, it happens.

"I can help you," I say.

WORD VOMIT!

I really though she had forgot me.

Until last night.

I will now be spending my Friday evening and my Saturday morning and most of the afternoon selling Laffy Taffy and shredded chicken sandwiches to Middle School Band Members.

Oh, and I told C1 if I was going, she was going.

"Really, Mom!?!" she said.

She can't wait.

She doesn't know about word vomit yet.

Dance Pretty!

C1 has been in dance since she was three years old.

This is her ninth year. (Where did the time go?)

When she was about five I started asking her if she had "danced pretty" when I picked her up.

One week, she said "No. I danced liked this," and waved her arms crazily in the air. And then she laughed.

Since then I have told her to "dance pretty" when I drop her off at the studio. And I always make sure to say it before she goes on stage.

I don't want anymore of that crazy dancing going on.

Now, it's our thing.

I've Never Done This Before

Today I am blogging...from work.

I have never even used the computers for ANY personal business at work. I usually just help the kids get to the games the want.

Today, I am teaching ( and I use that term lightly) fourth grade. Every once in a while, while the teachers go to grade level meetings, we para educators teach their class for the morning. Fourth grade is the easiest to actually do, but also the most nerve wracking for me. I am much more comfortable in front of the five year olds. You have to actually know something in fourth grade. More than if a word has a long or short vowel in it. Yikes!

The kids are in art and I have nothing to do.

I guess I could have wondered over to office and pestered the secretary. (Hi S!) But I'm sure she has work of her own to do.

Another Monday

The worst part?

We won't have another day off from school until Easter break.

Yuck!

Which Are You?

When M decided to leave his secure job of fourteen years at the OSU Branch Campus and become a restaurant manager, things were a little scary around here. My fear was the unpredictability of the restaurant business. His was proving to himself and everyone there that he could change this particular restaurant around and bring it back to what it used to be.

M has always been somewhat of a pessimist, where as I am an optimist. He would bring home his worries about sales, what specials to run, what should he do about a certain employee, or any complaint that he may get from a customer. I would reassure him that things WILL work out and everything will be OK.

That's when I found this quote in Guideposts Magazine.

It's from Norman Vincent Peale.

"The negative thinker tends to draw back to himself negative results, while the positive thinker activates the world around him positively."

I hung it on the cupboard door.

That was five years ago.

It still hangs there today.

Now, there is also a second copy that hangs in the office of the restaurant that M and his brother opened two and a half years ago.

See where a little positive thinking can get you?

How do you think, Internet?

The Big Apple

My mom gave C2 this apple.

I'm not sure where she got it, but here's a regular apple that we had in the fridge.

I wish she had given it to me so I could have snuck it in his lunchbox.

That would have suprised him.

Yeah, I'll Fly

Only for these guys

would I fly.

Booked my flight a little bit ago, and it made me a nervous a wreck.

I wouldn't do this for just anyone you know.

We Have Walls

Back in September I posted about the groundbreaking for our new school.

This is what it looked like back then.

There has been a lot of changes since that warm day in September.

Through all the cold, snow and ice, they have really been busy.

In the last two weeks, they started putting up the walls.

Where did they start these walls?

Where everyone starts!

The Kindergarten wing!

See The Windmill?

Way back in High School, on a Saturday night, my friend and I ended up "going for a drive" with a couple of guys we went to school with.

We parked out in the country somewhere.

When I asked where we were, the reply I got was, "See the windmill?"

So today, every time I see a windmill I think, "See the windmill?" and think of that person.

I "liked" him before I ever knew his name.

Two years later, he gave me my first kiss.

I saw him tonight.

See the windmill?

Mabel's Pastime

Mabel likes to sit on the chair and watch the birds too.

It's just that sometimes, this happens when her 18 pound body jumps up there.

Saki's Favorite Pastime

This is where Saki likes to sit, on the back of our recliner.

I find him here first thing in the morning, when I come home from work at noon, and usually all evening.

Why?

To keep an eye on these.

Living indoors and having food available at.all.times., I don't even think he would know what to do with it if he caught one.

Not to mention, he doesn't have any front claws.

A cat can dream though right?

I know I do...

Mmm...

This is what my mom got us all for Valentine's Day.

It's a giant peanut butter cup!

I had to hold C2 back with my foot so I could take this picture.

He couldn't wait to cut into it!

Thanks Mom! We love you too!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Place a BIG kiss on the one's you love today!!!

Our United States

I have always liked geography.

I have a great sense of direction and know how to read a map. In fact, I think it's fun. When C1 brought home her atlas at the beginning of the school year I got really excited. When B used his in sixth grade, I loved it then too. It is a great source of information, and I LOVE checking their homework with it. I know. I'm sick.

When I was little, my grandparents had a big wooden puzzle that they kept under the couch. It was of the United States. I loved to dump it out and challenge myself to get it done with.no.help.

You can imagine my happiness then when I found this today!

My first score was 94% with an average error of 13 miles. I completed it in 228 seconds!

I would like to thank my grandma and grandad for having that puzzle under the couch. I'm sure it contributed to my success.

I'm going to have my kids do it tonight.

I'll let you know how they do.

I'm sure they won't beat my score.

One Year Ago

As I was going through the pictures on my computer, I found these.

This is C1 at the Blue and Gold Banquet for C2 last year. This was before he joined the same pack that B is involved in.

This was before she cut her hair and donated it to Locks of Love.

This was before she let her bangs grow out.

Her looks have really changed. She looks so much older now.

You Can Do It!

If you've heard Matt Logelin's story, you know how awesome he is.

He has started a foundation to help other people that have found themselves in the same situation. I have the link on my sidebar.

If you want to donate, go here.

Really, $7.00? What else were you going to do with it?

This Made Me Laugh So Hard I Cried

Do you watch The Office?

We just started this season.

We rented the previous seasons over Thanksgiving break to get caught up.

We LOVE it! We don't miss an episode now. We have all the current episodes on DVR and actually watch them when nothing else is on. No matter how many times you watch, they are funny.

The principal at school watches as well as a few teachers. We usually discuss it on Friday's. Some people catch things that others miss. That's.why.we.tape.it.

Today the principal came down to my room and asked me if I'd been to The Office website lately?

Here are the two videos he wanted me to watch.

I am home alone and laughed so hard I cried!

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

I'm Exhausted Already!

We started our morning with M jumping out of bed at 5:50 when my alarm went off. He was supposed to open the restaurant at 6am. He must have turned his alarm off and went back to sleep. Luckily, the server he was opening with had keys and will warm up the grill and cook if she needs to.

As soon as he was out the way, I woke up C1. She had a DARE meeting this morning at 7am. It was our turn to drive. If you know me, you know I usually run on Mosgrove Time. In other words, I'm late. Last night I had assured the other girl we pick up that we would be on time this week. I was determined to make that happen.

I fixed C1 her oatmeal, laid out her clothes, and packed her lunch.

I pulled the car out of the garage and started it. C2 is a big whiner about being cold in the morning. Especially when he is not fully awake.

After I went upstairs to wake up the boys, I dug around in the dryer to find B a pair of jeans. I asked him last night if he had jeans upstairs and he thought he did. He was wrong.

I promised C2 that the car would be warm.

C1 was poking around as usual, so I had to hurry her along.

We made it to the Middle School with five minutes to spare. The girls were excited because they would have time to go to their lockers before their meeting.

We came back home and I fixed C2 his breakfast. As he was eating, I remembered that he needed a bath. I hurried him along, got him in the tub, washed his hair and got him out. He got dressed and we on our way out the door at 7:45. He likes to go early so he can walk in the gym with his friends.

When we got out to the garage, he realized he had forgot to put his shoes on! Gees!

Now I am in the empty house enjoying the silence.

I need a little break before I get ready for the day.

Does anyone else have mornings like this?

Or are we just that dysfunctional?

Pioneer Woman

Does this picture speak to you?

It did me.

I found it at Confessions of a Pioneer Woman. This is a blog I read every day. Sometimes, I visit it two or three times. It.is addicting.

In this particular post, she tells why they have so many horses on their cattle ranch in Oklahoma. The pictures that she has of these wild mustangs are gorgeous.

Check it out!

Kindergarten Games?

Yesterday in the classroom, I was working with small groups at my table.

We were playing this game, Python Path.

To play this game, each player rolls a number die to see how many spaces to move on the board. Each space is marked with a letter of the alphabet.

The player then rolls four more dice with word endings. The object of the game is to combine the letter that you landed on with the word endings to make words. For each word you are able to make, you get a point. If you are lucky, you will get four points in one turn.

Close to the end, a little girl rolls the number die and landed on the letter "h".

She rolled the word ending dice, and got:
-at
-ag
-ick
-ore

"Oh, sorry honey, you only get one point" I say to her as I am hoping that no one recognizes any of those other words.

Luckily, I had a group of innocent ones.

Back to the Chore Jar

The chore jar has been reinstated!

We kind of got out the habit when school started, but we are back at it.

We had to make a few adjustments because of the weather.

We also added a little pay incentive which impressed C1 and C2 greatly. B on the other hand says he doesn't need any extra money since he works.

Um...yeah.

Nice try buddy.

Nice try.

Sunday Morning

In response to Good Luck With That's post this morning, here is my Sunday morning view.

This is out the front door.

And just for fun, this is out the back!

And boy, am I glad I don't have a biology test to take when I know nothing about it!

Good luck with that!
